Ykra‘s bags might just be the new kings of handmade colourful bags (yellow! red! blue! yellow+red+blue!). Their level of coolness can be partly explained by their place of birth: a workshop in the basement of Budapest’s only surf bar.
The designs are inspired by the sixties and seventies and the durability of mountaineering equipment. To make the sturdy quality bags, only natural materials are used such as canvas and leather.
Further inspiration comes from “skateboarding to mountain climbing, hip hop culture to reggae music, sailing to surfing, and everything inbetween.”
I imagine they made a large mood board titled ‘Go Out and Enjoy’ and then mixed it all together into one very smart branding strategy.
Looking for a go out and enjoy holiday this year? Head on over to Hungary! When you’re in Budapest make sure to stop by the YKRA store, to stuck up on YKRA bags and other Hungarian Design. And to ask for directions how to get to the woods near the castle of Somoskő in the north of Hungary for your own fun-filled 70’s style colourful camping trip. Which will basically look like this:
