What if, instead of endless scrolling through someones Facebook profile, you could get to know someone by looking at the sweater they are wearing?
Meet Sander, a true sports addict. Tennis, running, cycling..he loves it all. Cycling is something he started doing as a way to rehabilitate after a serious car accident he was in. It’s not only sports that make him happy though, he’s also a huge Startrek fan, owns a Darth Vader model and named his rabbit ‘Yoda’.
Meet Debby, an avid karaoke fan. She also owns a lot of shoes, most of them hardly wearable but so beautiful. She once jumped out of an airplane and the parachute wouldn’t open. Luckily the second parachute did.
What can your sweater say about you?
Olga van Zijl, a Design Academy graduate, knitted a collection of jumpers with personal details. She got inspired by the Dutch tradition of incorporating personal details in fishermen’s jumpers. In these jumpers you could find symbols of the wearer’s hometown.
For her graduation collection she knitted teddy bears, Darth Vader and a lot of shoes into the apparel. All to give an intimate insight into the wearer’s identity.
“Everyone is different, why keep that under wraps?” Olga van Zijl, designer KnittID
What would describe your identity best; wine glasses across your chest or a big heart with ‘mom’ all over your belly? Or something different all together?
KnittID has a few sellingpoints in the Netherlands and you can also request your own personal sweater. Fun!
