Mindful Monday: time to take a deep breath and stop. running. around.! Gigot is here with some Mindful inspiration. Introducing today: Trmtab.
One of the situations I find most difficult to be mindful is when sitting behind my laptop, working. Doing research, writing, encountering problems, worrying, then finding new solutions..or not. It can be incredibly hard when you are right in the middle of something, to pause, breath, and not get caught up in over-thinking.
One well-known technique to help you focus, without getting stuck, is the pomodoro technique. You set an alarm clock for 25 minutes, after which you take a 5 minute break. Walk around, get something to drink, and go back for another 25 minute session of work. Repeat though out the day, get stuff done, without working hours on end. That’s the idea.
Now when that fails, and you keep ignoring the beeps signalling it’s time for a break, you need something more drastic.
How about shutting down that laptop and putting it safely away in one of these gorgeous upcycled sleeves? You can feel the leather, smell it, and see the gorgeous patina. And now that you are detached from your work, have a real break in the offline world and start afresh later.
The sleeves are made from scraps of leather, that otherwise would have been wasted. Mansi, one of the co-founders of Trmtab, has always been surrounded by leather, as her family owns a leather factory in India. Led by a drive to create a sustainable project, she and business partner Cassandra, decided to start with turning the waist of that factory into stunning accessories for your phone, laptop or tablet.
Cassandra and Mansi believe everyone ‘can be a trimtab by making small changes to lead to a big impact’. Applause their beautiful project here, and don’t forget to take a break every 25 minutes or so. Enjoy your Mindful Monday!
