It all started with a box filled with old Dutch tiles. Marga van Oers got them from her grandmother and decided to play around with them. Now, just a few years later, Storytiles are loved worldwide.
Already an avid fan of collaging, Marga decided to combine some of the images she had collected, with the old Dutch tiles. A simple but oh so smart idea. The scenes are baked onto the tiles. Unfortunately it wasn’t feasible to continue using the antique tiles due to costs and limited supplies, but the new tiles combined with the collages have just the right combination of an ‘old feel’ and modern fun.
By using different colours and images, each tile tells a little story, hence the name Storytiles. Often involving children and animals, the stories are both sweet and fun, and have just the right amount of mischief. Imagine having your whole bathroom tiled up with these beauties, not cheap, but oh-so fun!
The Storytiles team at first was just Marga, the creative director based in the Netherlands, and Judith, the managing director based in Singapore. This proved to be a match made in heaven, as Storytiles were quickly picked up worldwide and are now sold in many shops. They have ventured into other materials as well (“Storywood“) and I am confident they will continue to conquer the world one story at the time.
