After a year of having a bio that says ‘soon-to-be entrepreneur’ I finally am happy to share that this has now changed: I am starting my own business!
I started GIGOT last year in October, as a way to explore and document all the ‘cool businesses’ I encountered. Years earlier I already knew I wanted to set up a business as well, but I never knew quite what kind of business.
Doing research and writing about all the creative businesses I found has been absolutely invaluable. I learned what is important to me: aesthetics, sustainability, storytelling and joy. Also, the guys with a subscription service especially tickled my imagination.
My business
So mix that all together and you get.. *drum roll*.. a chocolate subscription service! Members will receive a box every month, containing 4 different chocolate bars. Not your average Cadbury’s mind you, there is an entire world of small(ish) chocolate makers that work in a way I love best: creating the best products possible, while keeping sustainability in mind.
Like ‘The Chocolade makers’, two guys that started a little chocolate factory in my former hometown Amsterdam. They have always been a prime example of what I just love about creative entrepreneurs. Starting small, working hard, spreading joy, and making sustainability a key part of their philosophy. They were actually one of my first features!
Going international -> Keeping it simple
Sorry my international friends, I will be focussing on the Dutch market. I could write a whole post on coming to this decision, but for now, keeping it simple really is my main reason.
What will happen to GIGOT?
You might have noticed that the amounts of posts each week has slowly declined, which is a direct effect of needing my time to set up the company. I will, however, try my very best to continue to feature the businesses here that inspire me in one way or another.
I never had a set plan of what I want GIGOT to become, and I still don’t. I know I want to continue as it has learned me incredible lessons. I’ll definitely write updates on how things are going, in a Emily McDowell style hopefully! Love how she shares the behind-the-scenes of her business in her blog.
Ok great, but where do I order the chocolate!?
For all my Dutch readers (and non-Dutchies living in the NL) do head over to AndereChocolade.nl to get your monthly chocolate fix.
I’d also love your support on twitter, facebook and instagram, if you’re on any of these platforms. Cheers!
