Afriek blazers from African fabrics

Contrary to the majority of fashion brands found on the high street, Afriek is a brand with ‘a story that suits’ that they’ll happily share from start to finish.

The story behind Afriek, in a nutshell, is all about equality, creating sustainable business opportunities in African countries, and connecting you with the tailor behind your new favourite jacket.

This amazingly cheerful Dutch men’s wear label uses fabrics sourced from different African countries. The skilful tailors in Rwanda sew the jackets, and add a personal label. This enables you to trace back who was the person who actually made the jacket you are wearing. Personally it makes me ridiculously happy to know that my tailor ‘could listen to West African music all night long!’. (And instantly makes me wonder why I never listen to West Africans music myself?)

It’s providing this kind of background story, combined with the amazing prints, and the knowledge that these jackets were made under fair conditions, that really should set the tone for all the clothes we wear. Luckily Afriek has big plans to expand into ties, pants, and (..) women’s wear! So make sure to stay tuned.
